Hi!
I’m Karen
Growing up, I spent a lot of time on my great uncles farm, where there was always stock work and shearing to do and a kelpie to get the work done. My Great Uncle Ray Browne, from Urangeline Creek, started his kelpie Stud in 1950 with the Pendula Kelpie lines and I am honoured to be re establishing his stud name with my very own kelpie blood lines.
In my 20s I worked as a veterinary nurse and my love for animals, animal health, wellbeing and obedience training began. While working at the veterinary clinic I ran the puppy preschools, thoroughly enjoying this side of my role.
When I married Jono, we began our journey as farmers whilst also working off-farm jobs, slowly building our numbers of sheep and cattle up to what we have today.
We were lucky enough to be sold a retired female Sally who reinvented our needs for good working dogs as she was incredible and did the stock work with very little to no commands and I started the search for our next working dog. 2 years later we found the one. On a whim we dropped into the Beloka Kelpie stud on the way home from a family holiday and picked up Beloka Rusty IV. from then on we knew that we needed to continue with up and coming dogs with great working breed gentics and we established the stud we have today.
I then attended many training sessions with a variety of different working training groups and now train all our kelpies to work both paddock and yards and have even had ago at the odd trial. my main passion is behaviour and obedience training in working dog breeds but have worked with other breeds also.
The children play a vital role in socialising and teaching our puppies good manners. each of our dogs can be walked safely by our children as they are taught from a young age how to lead correctly and what behaviour is appropriate.
